Ted Geier

Ted Geier is a life-long social entrepreneur focused on building the capacities of individuals and organizations to create a better world.

In 1981, while finishing college, Geier created Cause Effective, a 501(c)(3) organization that helps other nonprofits transform their cultures and expand their constituencies to better generate human and financial resources and further their missions. During Geier’s 14-year tenure as CEO, Cause Effective produced seven annual New York Folk Festivals, featuring 200 events that focused public attention on hunger and homelessness; provided consultation and training to more than 2,000 nonprofits; published three books on nonprofit special events; and produced more than 500 special events. Cause Effective, a pioneer in the field of nonprofit technical assistance, will soon celebrate its fortieth anniversary.

In 1995, Geier founded CineMuse, a social venture and pioneer in the advent of hi-definition content and technology, producing original conconnecting programs from BBC, Discovery, and other providers to hundreds of museums, cultural institutions, and science centers in the US and Canada.

In 2004, after the sudden loss of his youngest daughter at age eleven in an accident, Geier and his family founded LOVE, HALLIE Foundation to celebrate and spread Hallie’s extraordinary passion for promoting kindness and social change. LOVE, HALLIE has worked with Oprah Winfrey, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Tribeca Film Festival, Malaria No More, and countless other organizations and individuals to inspire and provide practical tools and connections to young people who want to improve their communities and the world.

In addition to his work with LOVE, HALLIE, Ted serves as an Affiliate Consultant with the nonprofit Support Center, providing training and consulting to hundreds of individuals and nonprofits each year.

In a futile attempt to stay sane, Ted writes songs and stories, and plays guitar, poker, any role anyone will cast him in, and first base.
